Summary
Between 2014 and 2016, I led the development of the JPDNA, a design system aimed at enhancing over 180 news websites for Johnston Press (now JPI Media).
This initiative introduced modular, responsive layouts and UI controls, enabling rapid reuse and easy theming across the portfolio. The project significantly reduced design and development costs, doubled production speed, and provided a flexible foundation for new digital products. Notably, in 2016, the JPDNA facilitated the swift creation of a digital platform for the 'i' newspaper in just six weeks, which later won multiple media awards, including The Drum's Online Media Award for 'Best Designed Site' two years post-launch.
Key Actions and Achievements:
- Project Leadership: Spearheaded the JPDNA project to upgrade and streamline a vast portfolio of news websites.
- Design System Implementation: Developed a modular, responsive design system that allowed for quick reuse and easy theming, enhancing efficiency across the board.
- Operational Efficiency: Achieved significant reductions in design and development costs while doubling production velocity.
- Rapid Product Development: Enabled the creation of a digital platform for the 'i' newspaper within a six-week timeframe, leading to multiple media accolades.
This project underscored the transformative impact of a well-conceived design system in large-scale digital product management.
